Our Story
Our Story Begins With Our Founder & Creative Director, Holly Stickley
Our Story
We believe beautiful gardens don't simply happen. They begin with thoughtful design and become extraordinary through time and care.
For more than twenty years, Holly Stickley has helped clients create beautifully considered outdoor spaces that grow richer with every season. As Founder and Creative Director of The White Pear, Holly leads the creative vision and design philosophy alongside an experienced team of professionals specializing in garden design, fine gardening, project management, and long-term garden stewardship.
Holly came to garden design through a lifelong love of beautiful spaces and a deep study of design. A UCLA graduate, she studied interior design and spent more than two decades as an architectural photographer, working with leading designers, architects, and publishers. That background shapes how she sees a garden: through composition, proportion, color, texture, and light.
Raised in Los Angeles in a Hawaiian and Asian American family, Holly grew up connected to the gardens, food, traditions, and music of Honolulu, where both of her parents were born.
In 2006, Holly founded The White Pear, bringing together her background in design and photography with her knowledge of plants and the Pacific Northwest. Today, the Portland, Oregon, studio designs, manages, and carefully tends gardens from the very first idea through decades of growth.
We’re here to help your garden grow into its fullest expression. Let’s create something beautiful together!
At The White Pear, we have a shared philosophy:
- Gardens are meant to be lived in
- Fine gardening is the invisible craft behind extraordinary gardens
- Thoughtful design brings peace and invites us to slow down
- Tending a garden is an act of optimism
- The best gardens become richer and more meaningful through long-term stewardship
